Crestview marked National School Bus Safety Week last week. We are deeply appreciative of our drivers and the work they put into safely transporting Crestview's students to and from school and special events. They are the first and last faces many of our students see in their school day. Members of our administrative team each rode along with drivers throughout the week.

Crestview Local School District currently has several items available for auction on GovDeals.com. Community members are invited to bid on any of these items. Bidding on the current group of items closes on October 21. A second large group of items will open for bidding next week.

Girls in grades 3-6: The Crestview Girls Basketball program is in need of girls to play basketball this winter. Teams will be formed by grade level. Typically, there are two practices each week beginning at the start of November. Games will be on Sundays between 12-6 in Ashland. Games start at the beginning of December and end at the beginning of February. No games over Christmas Break. Depending on the number of players on each team, cost is between $60-$70. Crestview Families, beginning this week (Sept 2-6), our School Nurse will begin conducting hearing and vision screenings for all students in Pre K, Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 3rd grade, as well as any new students to the Crestview district. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Nurse Sarah in the Elementary Office.

Elementary Families, reminder that tomorrow, Thursday, August 29th, is school picture day. Packets were sent home previously, and students should bring them to their homeroom teachers tomorrow morning.

Families: Back to school is a good time to review the Student and Transportation Handbook. The current handbook, Board approved in July, is available at https://5il.co/2sevo. We appreciate your partnership and support in working to create a great school community.

Elementary families: All medications, prescription and over-the-counter, must be brought to the school nurse by a parent/guardian, and appropriate forms must be signed by their physician and parents before being administered at school. For more information, contact Nurse Sarah Ebersole.

We are proud to welcome Crestview alumnus, Deputy Chandler Holbrook, as our School Resource Officer. I am Deputy Holbrook and I will be the new School Resource Officer. I was born and raised in the Crestview community, I come from The Richland County Sheriff's Office. When I am not working, I enjoy my free time with my wife and two French Bulldogs. I am a big Cleveland Browns fan. I am looking forward to this new position and getting to meet all of you.

It's back to school week and we can't wait to welcome everyone back! Reminder to families that school starts Monday for Preschool, Kindergarten, and Grades 5 & 9 only. All other students start on Tuesday. It's gonna be a great week. Go Cougars!

We have a phenomenal team of paraprofessional aides working in our classrooms. We're excited to have Susanna joining our preschool team this fall. Hello, my name is Susanna Spencer. I will be joining the preschool team as an Aide in Miss Allie’s class. I worked at the Blue Pumpkin Boutique before becoming a sub for Crestview and worked the end of this past school year with the preschool kids. I reside here in Crestview school district with my husband Zach and our three daughters Brooklynn, Zoey, and Leia. Both my husband and I were born and raised in this area so when it came time for our kids to go to school we knew exactly the school we wanted them to attend. Outside of work you will find me spending time with my family at soccer games watching my kids play, garage saling, baking, and reading a book here and there. I am very grateful for the opportunity to work with these wonderful kids this coming year!

33. This is the number of drivers cited by the Ohio State Highway Patrol for passing a stopped Crestview bus during the last school year alone. Our bus drivers made 45 red-light violation reports last year, which, aided by camera footage, resulted in 33 citations. Protect our kids. #STOPmeansSTOP

Transportation Forms needed this weekend - To make sure every rider and route is properly scheduled, all families (bus riders or not) are asked to complete the Transportation Information form in FinalForms by this weekend. We may be unable to accommodate late requests in time for the first day of school. If you've already completed all of your forms for the new year, thank you, you're all good.

Exciting news! The Rooms app has been updated this summer with some VERY long-awaited improvements. Most notable is the "My Notifications" feature that brings all your messages together in one place, tagged with the name of the course/team and child for which the message was sent. No more sifting through dozens of groups to find new communications. Is your child or family new to the district? Stay tuned for a Rooms invitation in early August!

We are back this summer with 3 local cross-country programs to collaborate for the “419 Running Youth Running Club”. Ashland, Crestview, and Mapleton will be working together to help spread a message that we (as runners) already know…Running is FUN!!! This year we will offer 1st through 6th graders the opportunity to learn and experience the sport of distance running by joining our Middle School and High School teams for an introductory experience. We will be meeting together with young runners during the summer at each of our locations. During all practices and race sessions, our coaches will be present and running with the kids to help them reach their goals while keeping them safe wherever they are. So many times we hear younger athletes say things like “I can’t run” or “Running isn’t fun!” We agree that many times running can be unpleasant or seem hard to do. When people train for other sports they run hard (when they are not used to doing it) and it really isn’t fun. Most athletes struggle to learn the pacing needed to run beyond ½ a mile when they first begin. We want to help elementary students have fun experiences with running that can lead to a true appreciation and enjoyment of the sport. Did I mention that we plan to have fun running?!?! We will also work on basic form, running, and dynamic stretching drills, and engage in light conditioning. This means this camp will help all runners for any sport! 419 Youth Running Club members will then be able to participate in fun runs at each host site’s invitationals, as well as get free entry into some great 5k/fun run events held locally. These events will be a great opportunity for our young runners to come together. Since the opening of the elementary in the 2005-2006 school year, students have left their mark in our hallways. Mrs. Rader and Ms. Heldenbrand are affixing the Class of 2032's tiles as they prepare to transition to middle school.
